Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I firmly believe that being able to have this great privilege to attend college will open numerous doors filled with opportunities for me that will go beyond just the textbooks. I will be able to use the knowledge that I will learn in college to help make a difference in the world. It only takes one person with a compassionate heart to transform a life. Through the help of a college education, I will be able to modify the world in any way, shape, or form.

I plan to set goals for myself while attending college to motivate me to be a better student and person. My biggest goal is to put in the most effort towards receiving the best college education I can possibly ever get. I will be devoting most of my time to being a studious student both inside and outside the classroom. I will reach this goal of mine by being prepared for each class such as completing the homework assigned on time, studying what I learned to make sure I was able to comprehend the material, and finally asking my professor questions if I don’t understand a certain lesson. Another goal I have for myself is to get involved during my college years to have the ability to meet others and create long-lasting friendships. I will achieve this goal by joining a sorority and clubs that interest me. I have always dreamed of being in a sorority one day because I know that being a part of an organization with powerful women and values will help shape me into a better woman. I cannot wait for this big dream of mine to come true!

Throughout my thirteen years spent in Catholic schools, I’ve always loved school. I was eager to learn each day and enjoyed my teachers. I learned from a young age that I can do anything if I put my mind to it. I admired their job so much that at a young age, I was determined to be a teacher when I grew up. Although I’m not going to school for teaching, I’m still forever grateful for their wisdom that they instilled in me each day that I went to school. Teachers should be commended for their hard work in the classroom that they put forth every day. I can honestly say that without the help of my wonderful teachers, I would not be academically where I am today. They have taught me valuable life lessons beyond the classroom and I am forever grateful for that. I am so blessed to have been given the greatest opportunity of all time, the chance of having an education. Knowledge is power!

My decision to purse a higher education was a dream of mine ever since I was a little girl. College seemed so far away, but now I understand that time prepared me for this big leap of faith. A college degree will help me land the job of my dreams one day. It will also help me earn a decent salary to raise a family. My dream job is to work in the entertainment business as a journalist for E! Entertainment. I enjoy talking about fashion and celebrities. The opportunity to work for E! News one day would be an absolute dream come true for me! I hope to earn a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Omaha to help prepare me for my future career. I’m very excited to see what my future has in store for me.

College thus far has taught me that the saying “good things come to those who wait” is true. I view each class that I attend as a stepping stone towards earning my degree. I’ve learned to believe in myself and to put forth the effort and work to achieve the grade that I want. I know that I will encounter challenging classes in the future, but my strength and perseverance will help me get through it all. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to attend college, which will benefit my future in numerous ways. My dreams will one day transform into a reality by attending the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Megan, I think that your plan to set goal for yourself in every class is an awesome way to make sure that you give everything that you have to each of you class and you collage experience. Also I think that I will be adapting your way of thinking to my life. I like to think that I am a good student but I find myself think about some class as a hassle or something I should not have to take. Having the mindset that every class is a stepping stone to my finial goals in life will change the way that approach each class. If I could give you one tip it would be to try and pick you class for the semester so that they have something in common, so that you can learn one thing in one class and it will help you in another class. This has helped me because you are learning about the same thing from different points of view.

Thank you for your advice! I will definitely take it into consideration when I decide what classes I will take next year. I’m glad that I helped you change your way of thinking! I think that setting goals in college help you achieve anything that you set your mind to. Goals are something to look forward to and help you grow as a person, which is very important in college. I do agree that taking classes that are similar in subject matter will be easier for me. I also love to hear different view points and opinions as well.
